Find Motivation

Finding motivation is, more simply put, figuring out what drives you; why are you doing what you're doing? To be productive and produce quality work, you need to focus on maintaining your stress in a way that pushes you forward instead of dragging you down.

There are often points in one's life where they start to believe that what they're doing is pointless. I often tell myself that no one will read my work or like my art, but that simply isn't true. There are currently almost 8 billion people populating this planet, and out of every one of those people, there is going to be at least one fan—one person out there in the vastness of the world who will look at what I've created and enjoy it. I don't need to be a huge success to be a success.

We all strive for some form of success, and finding the motivation to reach that success can be extremely difficult when we are constantly putting ourselves down. We overthink and ask ourselves "What's the true meaning of what I'm doing?" "What's the purpose?" "Who will care?"

It can be a struggle to find the answers to those questions. Each person has different motives, and finding yours can be the key to your productivity.

I find motivation in the world around me by simply seeing what others have done for themselves. I see people I grew up with starting families and buying houses, and instead of getting jealous and sad (even though I won't deny I feel those emotions) I push forward and use that as a key motivator.

No matter how hard I convince myself I don't deserve a happy life or that I'm falling behind, I don't let that deter me. I admit, it's hard; however, everyone deserves a life they are happy with. Don't settle. Find what you are working for and take advantage of the feeling it gives you. There are days when getting out of bed is the largest task in front of me, but with the work tactics that I've cultivated over time, I can work around my struggles and find some inkling of creativity to motivate me.

My main motivators are my creative spark and the supportive people I've surrounded myself with. I am extremely grateful to be blessed with such wonderful people, and I know that others out there aren't as fortunate; but in all honesty, you don't need anyone to motivate you but yourself. If you want to create, do it for yourself; don't feel trapped because believe that you have to please someone else. Please yourself.

But if that doesn't work for you, do it out of spite. Push forward because you were told that one time in high school that you couldn't do it. Push forward and finish that project just because you tell yourself you can't do it. Challenge yourself every day.

There is no better feeling of satisfaction than finally finishing a project that you've been working on and saying "I did that." There is no better way to get there than finding what lights a fire beneath you and keeps you burning even when the flames feel like they are dying out.
